Do you spend too much on supplements?

I know people who have cupboards full of vitamins, minerals and protein powders.

This is all down to personal preference of course, but here is my two pence worth. I believe good quality vitamins are essential but should not be used as a substitute for a healthy diet. This is unfortunately the situation in a lot of UK households.

We Brits have an interesting habit, we will eat a Big mac meal and then have a diet coke with it! A bad diet with excessive vitamins is the same thing. To be honest, plenty of vegetables of different colours, a good quality fish oil supplement and a good quality multi vitamin should do the trick.

In regards to protein powders, I do use a good value for money powder. I wouldn't spend a fortune here as some of the brands are shockingly priced, however it is a good easy way of getting the right amount of protein into your system.

If you train, try saving money and going for Chocolate milk. This has the right amount of carbs to protein for the after training meal and can taste better too. My personal gains have not been effected by using chocolate milk. Remember effective training builds muscle, not loads of protein.

So, be careful what you believe and be careful what you spend. Get the facts and make your choice!
